Canon PIXMA TS9050 as photo printer rather than office workhorse, and therefore uses a six ink system. But it lacks the light cyan and light magenta that many photo printers use. Instead add pigment-based black ink which gives the copy sharper text, and light gray which should provide a smoother gradation, although this will only make a difference to a mono print. It does have handy back feed that requires up to 20 sheets at the same time as the main paper tray, but the scanner doesn't have an automatic document feeder, so you'll have to lift the lid and place one sheet at a time.
The Canon PIXMA TS9050 does have a very fine print resolution, and our photos on glossy paper looked amazing. Black text still doesn't match the quality of a laser printer, but charts and graphics appear bright and solid, with sharp edges and no banding. You shouldn't rush into any of this, as the Canon PIXMA TS9050 peaks at 13.4 pages per minute (ppm) on plain text documents and 3.8ppm on color graphics. We expect more speed from a printer at this price. The scanner, which takes a few seconds to warm up, takes 13 seconds for a mono photocopy, and 19 seconds for a 6x4in color photo at a sharp 600dpi, with full-color pages taking nearly two minutes. The copy on plain paper looks slightly dirty.
